Legend has it that a mere kitchen apprentice created the Imperial Torte in honor of Emperor Franz Josef I. to mark the opening of the Hotel Imperial in 1873.
This event marked the birth of the superb Imperial Torte. The young scullion Xaver Loibner guarded the recipe like a treasure, and it has been a secret ever since. A mouthwatering chocolate icing, a slight aroma of almonds and the fusion of chocolate cream and marzipan combined to make the perfect composition - every slice takes you back to the imperial Vienna of 1873.
